Recent News

With our first General Meeting now taking place in the salons at the Rec Center, the agenda has been updated.

We will still enjoy our social time, and Tom Hayes remains our guest speaker. However, the meeting will now open with an official Inauguration Ceremony, formally establishing our club within PROBUS Canada and the City of Pickering.

The ceremony will be attended by dignitaries from PROBUS Canada, the City of Pickering, and the Province of Ontario, and will include:

  • A ribbon cutting

  • The President’s Pledge

  • Induction of the Management Team

  • And of course — cake!

The meeting is at the Rec Center staring at 1:30pm on September 9th and there is still plenty of room.   We look forward to seeing you there

Tour registration for the 'Tour of the Automotive Center of Excellence Facility at Ontario Tech University' will close on September 8 at NOON because we must provide OTU with a list of attendees so they can prepare for our arrival.

Next Speaker

In September we are fortunate to have Tom Hayes join us as our very first speaker at a Probus Pickering Millennium Members’ meeting.

As a journalist Tom enjoyed a career of more than 35 years as an anchor, reporter and award winning storyteller in Toronto with CTV News, CityNews and Global News.  His stories have included everyone from Royalty and Prime Ministers to Business Leaders and Rockstars. A message and a captivating character are the essential ingredients of any great story - crafting the story properly makes it memorable and timeless. As the winner of the Edward R. Murrow Award his work has taken him through Canada, US, UK, India and Zambia.

With such a celebrated career, Mr. Hayes will surely have very interesting stories and insights to share with us!

In October, come prepared to laugh and learn during Elaine Charal's "Power of the Pen" presentation.  Discover how to communicate even more effectively with family and friends by understanding what the strokes of handwriting mean.  Everyone will learn about their strengths as reflected in the 'paper mirror' of their handwriting.

Our Speaker for November is Nate Hendley.   Nate is a Toronto-based freelance writer and author and has written several books, primarily in the true-crime and history genres.  Nate’s book, 'The Beatle Bandit won the Crime Writers of Canada Award of Excellence for Non-Fiction 2022 and was nominated for a Heritage Toronto 2022 Book Award.

Nate’s latest book and the subject of his presentation to us this Rememberance Day is 'Atrocity on the Atlantic'   This story recounts the torpedoing of Canadian hospital ship by a German submarine in World War One—a forgotten tragedy that forever changed war crime prosecutions.
